A Canon printer with a continuous ink system (CIS) may display an error when the added tubing limits movement or affects how the cover closes. The video examines two different observations: P02 or P03 during carriage travel, and E02 or E03 when the cover cannot close fully.

P02 and P03: Carriage movement

The carriage needs room to travel across the printer. In the demonstration, shortening the available tubing on the left prevents the carriage from reaching that side, and the printer displays P02. The video also discusses P03 as a possible sign that movement toward the right is restricted.

The position of the external ink tank and the amount of tubing available inside the printer can affect that travel. These observations are most useful when considered alongside the direction the carriage was moving before the error appeared. An error code alone does not establish that tubing is the cause.

E02 and E03: Cover closure

The video associates E02 and E03 with CIS tubing held tightly enough to interfere with the cover. It points out a trigger on the left side that must be engaged when the cover closes. In this example, the cover and trigger provide a different area to consider from the carriage travel shown with P02.

These are observations from a printer fitted with a CIS. The video also notes that, without a CIS, restricted carriage movement can have another cause. Understanding what the printer was doing when the message appeared can help people make informed decisions about keeping equipment in use and reducing electronic waste.
